I had been looking for a way to photograph the moon directly over the castle of the town where I live (Cagnes sur mer, France).
I scouted locations with sight of the castle and then used The Photographer’s Ephemeris to find the best place and time and at 5am on April 18th, I was in position and the moon set over the castle exactly as planed.
Due to the dynamic range of the scene, I had to take two shots; one for the castle and one for the moon and composited them in Gimp. Framing between the two shots didn’t change, only the exposure did (8s and 1/30s).
